The Mopar PCM is the same for Ram and Dakota 318s only. The 360 PCM is a
different part number. FWIW I keep hearing conflicting reports on running a 360
with a 318 PCM. Some say it works, others say it dosen't. I think the Mopar PCM
would have the best chance of running a 360 properly. If I end up going 360 I
may run it with the Mopar PCM I already have just to see. If it runs fine, OK.
If not, I'll buy a PCM.
What area of the country are you in Brett? I ran across a guy with a 92 318 CC
2wd auto, complete. Had a minor engine fire, but everything looks fine. Didn't
even blister the paint on the hood. Said he got it running once, but it has
been sitting for a while. Salvage title, located in MA. I gave serious thought
to picking it up and shipping it down here to TX. I think I could get it
running. If not, it would make a good parts truck. Only 20k miles on it. Guy
wanted $370 for the truck, but shipping would run me about $1000, so no go for
me. I may end up trying to buy some parts off it though, like the hood. Plus I
have a local ordinance that says non titled/inspected vehicles need to be
hidden from view.
The mods I have done to mine really woke it up, even for such a high mileage
truck. Absolutely no problems for daily driving. Makes the commute much more
fun, but gas mileage gat worse. Primarily due to my right foot. ;)
I am leaning the most toward a 390 simply from a more power aspect. Ultimately
though money will probably prevent that, but we shall see. I have some 1.7s on
order, so when they show up I'll pull the valve covers off and take a gander at
that. Figure I might as well put new valve seals, springs and possibly valves
in while I am at it. I need to keep downtime to a minimum, so all engine work
needs to be completed over the weekend. Still, if I can get a good deal on some
pistons, rods and crank, then a cheap shortblock is in order, and I'll just
deal with it.
Maybe one day I'll actually paint the truck. Been peeling for a couple years
now. ;)
