what are you smoking!?!?!?! i can spot a pontiac from a quarter-mile away,
simply because of all the parts hanging off. but you can't honestly tell me
that you can DEFINITELY spot a GTO a half-mile away. hell, i can be in the
next lane and not be sure i'm looking at a GTO or Grand Prix unless i look
at the badging.
when it comes to the Viper vs. Vette, we have to remember, pretty soon it'll
be Vette vs. Firepower (i love the classic name) in the "lower-end" bracket,
and the Blue Devil Vette has been killed. yeah, it's rumored to have a
600hp V8, but that doesn't mean it's going to be made. and don't be
surprised to find out a bump in power for the Viper soon. it wouldn't be
hard to bump that engine up to 550hp out of that engine. it isn't making a
1:1 hp:ci ratio, so bumping power probably won't be very hard. remember,
the original viper came out in 1992, at about 400hp, and received a 50hp
bump in 1996 (and a 25hp bump in 1998 or 1999 for the GTS/R version).
as for the Charger, i think we have to realize something: just cuz it's
built on the LX platform doesn't mean that it's a rebadged 300C. if you
really knew anything about Chrysler cars, you'd have realized that what's
going on now has been going on for decades. the Coronet and Roadrunner
shared more parts than we can imagine. same thing goes for the cuda and
challenger. hell, ford and chevy do it to... it's called BUSINESS. just
cuz it's a 4-door doesn't mean it's a POS. in fact, i think it looks better
than what had been rumored (including the concept car, which i definitely
didn't like).
as for me, i'm waiting for the SRT-8 Charger to come out, and i'll be in
line for that one. i'll be getting a full-time job soon, so that'll be in
my driveway soon.

Subject: Re: DML: OT: Dodge Charger
Well, as a 22 year old I'll weigh in on this one. I think the GTO is a much
better example of retro compared with the Charger, it's totally
disappointing. *Sarcasm* YEAH, they put the same Hemi in yet another
car,*end Sarcasm* and I'm sick of hearing 340 hp, I think the whole of the
US knows that by now. The GTO is fairly simple by today's standards and is
RWD, stick with a wicked V8 (They're getting the 400 hp LS2 very soon) So
you can't even compare it to the Charger, 340 hp Sedan vs 400 hp Coupe.
It's not a retro carbon-copy of the old Goat but it's a modern version of
the formula. The Charger on the otherhand is another rebadged 300C.
And someone commented on how the Vette vs Viper power struggle was going on,
that's gonna get interesting because there are reported to be 3 count them 3
Vette Models, base 400 hp, Z06 with 500 hp and one deemed the "Blue Devil"
with a S/C and 600 Hp, where's the Viper then? Catchin' up, that's where.
I'll end on this, I can find a GTO in a crowd from a 1/2 mile away if I'm
looking, 1/4 mile away if I'm not. It has enough of Pontiac's styling that
I know it's a Pontiac but I never mistake it for a Grand Prix or Grand Am.
But the first time I saw a Viper SRT-10 on the road, from 1/4 mile, I though
it was a Stratus Coupe. I'd rather pay 35K for a car that's easily
identified from a distance than 83K for a Viper powered Stratus. I love
both cars, so don't get me wrong, but sometimes our brand loyalties skew our
view.
