Indeed, there are likely other reasons.

The trans may be weaker (though my own experience with Dodge automatics
makes me somewhat skeptical), but a manual lets you more easily abuse the
drivetrain, so it makes sense, I believe, that the drivetrain should be a
bit stronger.

You can do evil things with a clutch that an automatic wouldn't dream of
allowing.
