Yep, this man speaks the truth. :-)
In fact, back in 1997 or 1998 when the 9 1/4" rear first
began to appear in the Dak, the V8 + 5-speed combo would
automatically trigger the 9.25" rear to be installed instead
of the weaker 8.25".
This is also part of the reason why my mid 14 second Dak
(5 speed) tore up the spider gears in my 8.25" rearend at
the dragstrip while other Daks with the same rearend but
automatic trannies were running as quick as mid 12s with
sticky drag radials to boot! Even with a shift kit, the
auto doesn't hit the rest of the drivetrain nearly as hard
as a manual tranny can.
