I think I've heard the NV-3500 will let go at 300 hp,
but I'm not sure if thats *rear wheel* hp or crank. I
know I'm running close to 300 crank now and I'm
amazed because several times I've missed shifts and
crammed it into to lower a gear from 4th to 1st (missing 3rd)
at 60 plus mph.....talking about wheel hop and scrambling
your brains. So far the original ('98) NV-3500 has held up
to my bad mistakes. 7 years and 72,000 miles. Maybe
its the Redline.

Ram 1500's didn't have a 5-speed with the 5.9, the 2500/3500 had one
available but it was the NV-4500 rather than the NV-3500 (bigger, heavier,
stronger, and lower gearing..wouldn't be too useful in a Dak R/T). I could
have sworn I've heard a number of people talking about blowing up NV-3500's
with the 5.2 (granted I think we're talking drag racing and other severe
use).
