Don't understand that either and have no explanation for it.

Example: Replaced an evaporator on an older Ram (had 60K on the original).
Started leaking after 8K miles. Replaced it again. Started leaking (again)
after about 10K miles)...replaced it again.

My only guess is that the manufacturer changed or they changed the design
slightly (didn't notice anything obvious).

Why would they continue to make parts that are obviously inferior?
