ok. here's the whole story behind the brakes & drum question (long):
( i sent this to ray block already, and got his input. now i need the rest of the gangs
help on this one )
FIRST SYMPTOM:
i have a vibration or more accuratley a "drone" sound coming from the rear
of truck at high speeds. if I go to 90mph it gets loud and sounds like its related to
wheel speed and not the engine rpm. if i slow down to about highway speed (55) it goes
away.
i did a test where I went to 90mph and shift to neutral and let engine
return to idle ( about 600rpm ) all while coasting at 90mph. then the truck naturally
slows down and the drone sound changes pitch. it gets lower in tone as the truck is
slowing down.
also while in neutral, and at 80+ mph, i did a test where I reved the engine a few
times just to be sure the vibration was not engine related. the vibration did not
match the engine rpms.
SECOND SYMPTOM
i also have some slight pulsing in the brakes when i stop. ( probably a warped front
disc right? )
THIRD SYMPTOM
i also noticed that if i jack up both rear tires and gently turn one of the
wheels* I can hear very faint "swooosh" sound coming from the drum on driver's side. the
"swooosh" occurs once each revolution of wheel. the passenger side doesnt make any
sounds.
* i dont have limited slip
so, after reading all that, does anyone want to chime in ?
