I have a non Mopar vehicle (pre-OBD II) that has problems at WOT or
almost
WOT. The vehicle smokes a lot (black) under load at large throttle
openings.
If I rev the car while parked the smoke is barely noticeable. But under
a
load at full throttle or at higher RPMs the smoke is extreme. I have had
friends follow and they confirm that it appears to be mixture related
(not
oil) because the smoke is black and smells strongly of fuel. Tailpipe is
also black with dry carbon. Not wet and oily.
The check engine light is not illuminating and my gas mileage seems to
be
fine. This problem seems to have gotten worse recently. Before I only
noticed a problem when the temp was below 30F. The injectors, pressure
regulator, fuel filter, and oxy sensor have only about 20K on them.
Is there another sensor/switch that could be malfunctioning that could
cause
this scenario? I have checked the manifold temp sensor over different
temperature ranges with no problems per the graph in a repair manual.
I've
also checked the TPS and movement via an Ohm meter thru the range of
motion
appears linear; no dips or spikes. Not a Dakota or Mopar, but any help
would
be appreciated!
