On my truck, I used the white wire with an orange tracer. I also used one
of the bolts on the bracket right next to the wiring box for the ground -
worked out awesome. :)
As for the non-mopar wiring on the receptacle plug, I'm going on 40k and
counting now. You'll be fine!
