You can replace the water pump (and belt) without having to remove the
shroud (but will have to remove the fan and drop it down). Done it quite a
few times - it's a pain...but takes less time to do than messing around with
the shroud. :)

Thanks for the replies on this, first of all!
Well,I know it`s the water pump now. I said that you couldn`t see any
leaking when looking under the hood - that was incorrect. It wasn`t easy to
see,but looking down around a few things,it was apparent that the leak was
emanating from the water pump. I bought a new pump from Jeep, along with new
gaskets and serpentine belt, and I was all Gung Ho to tear it apart and fix
it myself yesterday. But I couldn`t get past step two! I don`t know if
anyone here has worked on one of these, but the electric fan and shroud are
supposed to be removed first. Not gonna happen!! At least not until I get
better metric tools. They have the shroud bolts at an angle right up against
the frame where a socket won`t fit (10 mm),and I`m not sure a box end will
even fit. And they are HARD to gain access to. It doesn`t appear that there
is even any way to pull the fan and shroud up out of there when I do get
them loose because the mechanical fan is right in the road, too. Also, one of
the transmission cooler lines is secured to the backside of the shroud, and
there is no way to loosen it (as it seems I need to) without some weird tool
as well.

I think I`m going to meditate on these things before I tackle it again, and
definitely leave it for a weekend.
Started getting dark on me last night, and I have to have it for work every
day.

I am sure I can fix the Jeep if I can just get the fans out of the way,so I
hate to give up on it. It`s not that hard of a job,for one thing. Just like
to know what the "trick" is that the Haynes manual
doesn`t mention. Steve P.

The other mods (headlight and taillight covers and black step bars) do not
add significantly to the speed of this vehicle, but are there purely for
intimidation purposes,as the markings of a cobra signify it`s deadly
potency. Put simply, this truck cannot be stopped.
