That is a good point. I had thought of that before but wasn't sure what
t-stat was standard on his engine. Plus I was worried that it would
force the engine to run rich, for longer, trying to get the temps up to
normal operating, whatever that might be.

The other somewhat ironic things is that he did buy a Superchips
programmer. But he really can't do a whole lot with it because of the
pinging. So he usually is driving around with the stock programming, if
I remember correctly.

I'm going to have to ask for some more details on what he is
experiencing and when. I know it isn't great because we drag raced a
month ago and I heard his engine pinging away at high rpm's. He
certainly would have stood a better chance if that wasn't happening.

   Another thing you can try (even cheaper than spark plugs) is
to drop from the stock 195 degree thermostat down to a 180 or 185.
That made a big difference in my '96 Dakota; after I installed the
MP PCM, it was pinging even on 93 octane; changed out the thermostat
and no troubles since.
