All those? The only gaskets Tom mentioned were the valve covers and oil
pan. (And the diff covers, but you agreed with him on those.)

I can't speak for Tom, but I've used RTV on oil pans and valve
covers. Why? Mostly because I don't get paid to tear the engine
back down to fix a leak. I want to put it together once. There
are also a lot of variables from engine to engine. Keep in mind
that Tom is working on a premag - he probably doesn't have the
fancy rubber Magnum valve cover gaskets in there. As far as my
own truck goes, I'm using LA valve covers on my Magnum which needed
a bit of RTV to seal. Not to mention the Cuda which has a 37 year
old motor in it; unless there is a good reason not to (i.e. cylinder
heads), when I'm putting on water pumps, timing covers, pretty much
anything, I will use a thin layer of RTV to fill any imperfections
and greatly increase the odds for a leak proof seal. Its cheap
insurance.
