   Yep, that was back in the days when I refused to own anything with an
automatic. :-) I couldn't find a V8/5-speed so I ended up ordering the
truck.

If I found a '96 4 cyl. 5 speed, would a NV3500 be able to use the existing linkages and such? Of course the 4 cyl. would be replaced with the 408 and associated wiring, PCM, etc.
