   As far as I know, since you are replacing both the engine and the
trans, the NV3500 should bolt right up. The body would be the same,
so the shifter should stick up through the same hole in the floor,
the only difference might be the trans crossmember; I'm not sure if
those varied from trans to trans.

   If you are going to a 408 however, you might want to consider a
beefier transmission than the NV3500. For example, something like
the Keisler 5 or 6 speed (http://www.keislerauto.com/mopar/dakota.html)
Don't take the above as an endorsement of Keisler; I don't know how
good they are or those transmissions are, I just happened to know
that they make them from seeing their booth at Carlisle. There
are other options available like a Richmond, etc. needing various
amounts of fabrication to install. I'm just not sure how long the
NV3500 would live behind a 408, it might be more economical to
spend the money for a heavy duty trans right out of the gate...
