Why not use terrestrial wireless? I have been using Wireless Internet for about 3 years
now. The stuff is pretty reliable. And fast as DSL or Cable.
Basically it works like this. A small Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP) puts a
very string 802.11 WLAN Access Point up on a peak, hill, tower or tall building in your
area. That 802.11 Access Point radio can rech 2 to 5 miles.
Then the WISP company comes to your property and installs a similar 802.11-based radio on
your roof ( in a small weather-proof enclosure ) and connects an appropriate antenna and
then aligns the antenna so it point to the mountain or tower. The radio is then
connected via Ethernet Cable to your PC in your den or your bedroom or where-ever.
You pay $60 - $70 a month and get 768kbps DOWN and 384kbps UP speeds. ( the prices are
gonna vary from company to company )
These companies are springing up everywhere. There's probably one near you, you just
dont know it yet. I am not tlaking biog firms like Verizon and Sprint. These are
usually little guys with a lot of know-how and they are trying to get High-Speed Internet
to you with out laying down expensive cable.
To search for a WISP near you, try: http://www.wispdirectory.com/
Or Google for it.
