Thanks for the reply Terrible Tom. My speedometer woes continue. The '95
Dakota most certainly uses an electronic signal to drive the speedometer,
not a cable. This is what I have done to try and correct this issue:

1. Bought truck with inoperative speedometer
2. Replaced speed sensor with one from parts stash and it worked at
first, then was intermittent
3. Replaced speedometer in cluster with one from parts stash, did not
work
4. Replaced speed sensor with new Mopar unit, did not work
5. Removed speed sensor housing and pinion from AX-15, cleaned and
lubed unit, no defects noted, reinstalled with correct orientation
6. Removed engine wiring harness, unwrapped, ohmed all associated
wires, no defects noted
7. Checked voltages with key on, get 7.97 volts, 4.95 volts and .02
ohms to ground, no defects noted
8. Replaced speedometer and speed sensor again from junkyard donor,
still inoperative
9. Removed speed sensor and housing again, turned with square drive to
insure engagement with internal worm gear
10. Checked resistances to and from SBEC, cluster, VSS, bulkhead
connector, no defects noted

Is there a history of the AX-15 worm drive gear becoming disengaged
internally? I am running out of things to do, and the obvious solutions no
longer work.
