I never opened up the Fury's rear end to verify the gear get.. The only
thing I could ever make out on the OEM tag on the cover was 5.13.. Which I
didn't realize would have been worth keeping until the car was long since
gone; as for tires.. I rarely ran anything under roughly 29-31" on it..
But factor in a similar Fury with a 360 going beyond the end of the speedo,
running 255/ 70 15's on it; On I-57 in Illinois.. Kankakee to Champaign was
35 min on a regular basis.. GPS.. how about a clock and an atlas.

I am assuming it's a typo when you said 5.13's in the Fury. Assuming a
26-to 28" tall tire that is going to put the rpm in the 7500 to 8100 rpm
range.
No 318 2bl will spin those kinds of rpm.

Hi List

Not to take sides or sound like I know what I might be talking about.....

5.13s in a street fury is is quite a ratio.

About 4000 rpm to hold 60 mph...and that would be really tall tires.

And as Dave suggested 8000 rpm for a 120 mph number.

I ran a 69 charger with a 440 sixpack auto setup at the strip....5.38
gears....

The gears were a great deal....the guy at the speedshop said my slicks
were more than
tall enough to carry the gears....

holy banana boat....first gear was like smashing the footfeed in
neutral........

The next shift at 7500 came when it seemed like you were only 100 yards
down the track....

And there were no more gears....8000 through the traps.....about 12 flat
around 120.....

A 4000+ pound car we drove to the track.....

We used a 2.76 speedo gear ..gave an easy 2x conversion on the speedometer.

Seems to me that a 4.56 was the steepest ratio one could get for a
speedo gear.....

No problem with Kankakee to Champaign in 35 minutes,,,,,,if it was done
at 8500 rpm...i'm impressed

4000 rpm at 80 mph is a ball park number for a 3.91 or 4.10 number

2200 at 60 is a ball park 3.23 number.....if you are doing 5000 at
70....you might have a 5.00 ratio.

And for most 70's and 80's cars you are about done there...........

DAKOTA CONTENT....Sorry it took so long Jon....forgot which list.......

Our 92 dak 5.2 MP cam, JBA headers , and MP computer, has an 8 3/4 axle
with 3.23 gears and a cab height shell.

275-60 s rated tires

We drove to the Vegas NASCAR race a couple of years ago, coming back we
ran in a caravan from kingman az to near
flagstaff and covered 125 miles in one hour. About 3500 showing on the tach.

There was a lot of throttle left.....

150....it would be fun to try.....salt flats?????

Bring on any Furies.....i owned a couple of 68 440s...they might cause
some problems.....80's....not worried.....

rob in phx.....my ferrets made me write this......
