 I wouldn't count on the trailer ball for a ground. All the 4, 6, and 7 pin
connectors I have seen have pins designated for ground. Even if it works out to
be something else I would but a wire on the ground pin on the trailer side and
tie it the the frame of the trailer.

For future reference. Ther make 7 to 6 pin adapters so you don't have to change
the connectors on your truck or your trailer.
