If there is still a tag on the diff, it should tell you what ratio is
in there, but don't count 100% on being able to find or read that tag,
and of course if the gears were swapped but the tag was left on it can
be wrong too.

4x4 vs 4x2 will change where the spring perches are - 4x4 is sprung
over, 4x2 is sprung under, so if you go from one to the other you'll
need to weld on new spring perches.

If you have a 4x2 and want to swap gears, find a rear with the cogs you
want and bolt it in.

Not sure if there are any year breakdowns on RWSS. Available axles on
recent trucks will be the 8.25 and 9.25. the larger is usually only
found behind manual V8s, as I recall.

Definitely replace your u-bolts, they're only supposed to be single
use, and they're probably pretty rusty.

factory ratios should be 3.23, 3.55 or 3.92. I have a LSD 3.55 rearend
out of my '98 up in Rochester, NY if you're interested. 95,000 miles
or so on it.
