You are the first person I have seen have problems with the 45RFE
transmission. My guess is they are pricey because there are far fewer
of them out there compared to its 727-based predicessors. Probably far
fewer cases out there for cores, and perhaps less avalibility of parts?

I would do your homework. Tranny work is like surgery. It really
depends on the guy doing the operation. If you get a builder who knows
his stuff, and isn't a cheat... thats worth far more than trying to get
the cheapest option in my opinion.
