If you trust the shop and the techs, have them rebuild it. You'll get
essentially the same parts (clutches, steels, solenoids, etc) for less money.
I'd also avoid Jasper reman parts like the plague. We used them at the
Chevrolet dealer I worked at, I'd say about 2 out of every 5 remans we
installed from them came back in with problems within 6 months.
That being said, $2500 isn't too unreasonable for a rebuild. The 42RE in my
truck was rebuilt and beefed up all across the board for $2250. They
replaced everything except the case.
