'98 LSD differential rebuild

Well, after nearly 2 weeks of repair and rental car,
(chevy Aveo) got my truck back. The front pinion
bearing went, shredding the yoke attachment, and
somehow dropping the driveshaft out of the diff,
leaving me dead, with a locked up diff, about 300'
past the train tracks.
(tracks shook it loose, but didn't cause the failure.)
Shop opened it up, poked around a bit and decided to
send the whole axle to the rebuilder. I opted to have
a complete brake system flush and bleed, since half of
it was getting done when the pulled the axel off.
   -insert a couple of days-
Got the driveshaft re-balanced, with the 98 club cab
and 6.5' bed, you get the one piece, lightweight
aluminum driveshaft. When the yoke connection went,
and the shaft dropped, it was flailing around under
the truck till I came to a stop, but I think the
U-joint at the end took all the beating. I was
coasting when it came apart, and driveshaft was not
under load, likely saving the gas tank and shaft
itself.
Shop reclaimed the axle, installed it, and discovered
it was still pretty noisy, and decided to drive the
truck back out to the rebuilder, to have it
re-rebuilt.
   - insert a couple more days -
This time, they put in a DANA pinion and ring gear
set, and then drove it back to the shop. Of course,
nobody works on weekends, so it just sat getting dusty
for two weekends.
Got it home, and after a short drive to work, it
seems pretty smooth and quiet, now I just need to find
some loose dirt to make sure the ltd slip is working.
With $1,700 in repairs and rental (the shop covered 6
days of rental, when they sent the axle back the 2nd
time), I doubt we're going to make the drive to the
Lone Duck campground this year. We'll miss meeting
the group there, but we'll take a raincheck for the
next one.
