Hey list,
Earlier I mentioned I need to replace my steering gear (havn't done
that yet) - is the 91-96 gear interchangeable with the 87-90? I
believe someone on the list told me it is; I just want to be certain.
The boneyards disagree, but the bonehead I talked to couldn't tell me
the difference - just mentioned his system said they're not
compatable.
Also, transmissions - do I have to stick to 87-90 trucks for my
tranny? My tranny is slipping and the gritty fluid tells me it's on
it's last leg. I'm considering picking up a boneyard unit, swapping it
in, and making a rebuild project out of the one I take out of my truck
(sound like a reasonable idea?) I could also chance the current one
for a while longer and rebuild the junkyard unit. My third option is
to drop the current one, bring it to my tranny man, and be off the
road for a couple weeks - he'll charge me about $450. I havn't decided
yet.
