Definately not on a 4x4 (they have torsion bars instead of coils), and not on
a 4x2 as long as you begin with the suspension fully compressed (all the
weight on it) you shouldn't have any issues. We're only talking moving it an
inch at most, just enough to seperate the balljoint. The rest you can move
by hand.
