I couldn't pull codes on my '98 either - I think 98 and 99 are the bad
years for that.
to get at the indicator lamps, pull the dash bezel (steering wheel tilted
all the way down, automatic tranny gearshift in first, grasp the top edge
and pull firmly towards you to pop the clips out at the top firest and
work your way around. Once that's clear, pull the cluster, I think it's 4
screws, either T10 torx or phillips, and the bulbs twist out the back
side, quarter turn style.
I've got a couple spares in my glovebox from a junkyard excursion a year
or two ago, I think the dealer gets around $2.30 each for them.
