I would love it if all coal plants could be shut. just because we have a
lot of it within our boarders doesn't make it a good fuel. coal is a
dirty fuel from end to end, they take mountaintops and put them into
valleys to strip mine it and don't do anything to reclaim the land when
they're done. coal plant emissions are why PA and WV have the worst acid
rain in the nation. Once they're done burning it, the ash is nasty shit
and just gets dumped wherever.

buzzword. everything is radioactive if you've got sensitive enough
equipment. EVERYTHING. but when us.gov says coal plants are a
significant portion of the radiation US citizens are exposed to, it's
nontrivial. Not enough to be a problem, just like with properly operating
nuke plants, but not nonw.

spent fuel doesn't count? or is it okay just becuase it's sealed up and
trucked to the desert?
