I just went through the same decision you are going through now.The key
trick dosen't work on my 1999 either. Bottom line is you get what you pay
for. A code reader is just that, a box that reads codes, some of the bottom
of the line readers won't even reset a code. I eneded purchasing the Auto
Xray 4000 (about $220). It was more than I wanted to spend at the time
also, but it gives you a realtime display on a number of sensors (helping
with troubleshooting) and it is very upgradeable (for $$).
