Old member needs some Help...Dead PCM?

I know, Iknow, it's been YEARS since my last post ....but I still receive my
DML Digests and lurk!

A little history is in order.......
I bought my Dak new. My 99 5.2CC has been stone reliable even with the many
mods done in the early years of ownership. My wife has had her 00QC since
new and had racked up 140,000 miles on it and is still her daily driver!!

I really need your help here guys. I changed out my sparkplugs
today---about as easy as it gets. While performing any work --even this, I
always disconnect my batt ground fro safety, and it's a good opportunity to
reset the PCM.

Hooked everything back up, turn the key --no fuel pump whine, engine turns
over --won't start. OK, so I go through the routine of checking all the
fuses and relays. Everything is good, relays checkout, etc.

GET THIS: When the ign key is turned on (not starting) BOTH the fuel pump
and ASD relays rattle for a half second or so and that's it.
If I remove the ASD relay, the fuel pump operates normally, no relay rattle.
I can turn the key to start and the engine will crank through both these
scenarios. There is, of course no power to the coil or injectors through
all this.
I plugged in my trusty 'lil OBDII reader and all I can get is an error that
it cannot communicate w/ the PCM. I THINK my PCM is unconcious.

Any ideas or experiences would sure help. My registration and smog test are
due by the 31st, which is why I was going through the tune up AARRRGH!
