It's on the top rear of the throttle body. No "maybes" about cleaning it.
Bernd replied to me when I was talking about them and he said it's part of
the 30/60 service his dealership does. It does get carbon on the pintle and
the seat, some engines more than others.
Don't rule out any of the other sensors, depending on your mileage. Tach and
speedo get their signals from different places I believe. Tach should come
from the cam sensor, down inside the distributor. Speedo comes from the
RWAL\VSS sensor located on top of the third member(beginning with that
year.) I've read about a few of those going out at a young age.
Somewhere yesterday I was reading about a problem a little worse than that,
same thing I had happen to me last month. The person found that the two wire
harness running up to the coil was touching the engine some place and was
shorting out due to heat. It was stated that that fries your coil. And no,
that's not a total fry, it will still work when it feels like it. Crank
sensor is usually a total fry. If it goes, it activates the ASD relay.
Also think about the MAP and TP sensors, they do affect operation like that.
Also a shorted O2S, and yep, that's happened to me. I think you're going to
find that it's a small electrical problem, maybe only with a badly routed
wire. By the way, I wish I hadn't read this. I'm going right now to get a
cashier's check to send to a guy down on the Coast for exactly that model.
You're scarin me. Biff
