BTW: Get the updated tensioner kit ($225). It comes with a new tensioner
bracket, tensioner pulley (redesigned), and new timing belt covers. While
it's not required, you may want to get it if you find the old tensioner
pulley is making bearing noises (should be 100% smooth - no "crunchies").
Also, get a water pump as well - no sense in going that deep into the front
of the engine and not changing out the water pump...you'll be kicking
yourself in the a$$ if it starts leaking afterwards. The ONLY way to change
the water pump is to remove the timing belt...takes only about 5 minutes
more for the pump if the belt is off.

Hehehehe....takes about 6-8 hours with hand tools. You'll need a floor jack
to lift/lower the engine to take off the front engine mount. You'll also
need to evac the A/C (allows the lines to be removed for easy access to the
upper strut mount (upper engine mount is attached to this).
I've done about 20 of them in the last 6 months...it's not easy work that's
for sure. I'm down to about 4 hours on them, but that's with experience and
a lot of bruised knuckles.
I've emailed you my cellphone number if you need help.

I have to do a timing belt on my gf's 2001 PT Cruiser with 2.4L non turbo
engine. Anyone done one of these themselves? Got any pointers or tips for
me?
James
