Back on DML with a new Dak with cluster issues

I rejoined DML last week after leaving in 2000 because I had sold my 96 Dak Sport 5.2 5-speed. As of yesterday I'm the proud owner of a 96 Dak Sport Regular cab 3.9 5-speed. It is Teal Green with Purple shwoop, 138k (all highway) and immaculate.

My first question (besides which generation it is, haha) is about the instrument cluster problem with these models. It has a short (or open) somewhere that causes the guages and dash lights to go out when the headlights are on. The signal indicators are also on solid glow. Everything goes back to normal with a nice wack to the center of the dash. I remember this being an occasional issue with my old Dak, and a few others, but I was wondereing if anyone had found the root cause. I kind of like feeling like Fonzie when I smack the dash but I may become too old and weak to smack it some day and that would not be cool.

Nice to be back,
Jeff
