Well - Friday was pretty much a big wash out... litterally.
Jon, Tom, David, Josh and Sheena set out in Jon's Willys and David's Dak to do
some trail clearing and inspection early in the day. The trails were pretty
dry and there were only a few small tres and brances down. With the gas well
drilling goin on around Jon's property - it made for a few road blocks due to
parge mounds of dirt. Also the Mud Pit is partially obscured by a large pile
of dirt... still accessable, however overgrown. We did a quick loop-de-loop at
the end of the runway and Jon tested the Willy's articulation on the ditch that
runs the length of the strip. Right about then it seemed to be a good time for
lunch. Tom got credited - make that blamed - for making a decision! hehe
Back to The Barn for sandwiches in the early afternoon. The weather had been
hot and muggy up until that point but started turning overcast and windy. Tom
who had been messing around with his paintball marker all day - headed into
town to try and locate some parts. Jason and Norah, Ed, and Jim Knox arrived
while he was out. About 4:45 pm ET - the storm hit and brought with high winds
and heavy rain. Tom called BBQ HQ to see if anyone wanted anything from
Wal-Mart where Josh informed him that his tent was totaled - and Tom's tent
prolly' suffered the same fate.
During his trip back to HQ, Tom came upon First Responders who had one lane of
King Road blocked off due to downed trees and power lines. He was not very
surprised to learn when he arrived, that there was no power at Jon's!
The rest of the evening was pretty uneventful. A bondfire was lit, and
everyone pretty much just sat around and relaxed - the BBQ was put into
production of burgers - Diana Sauce is to die for!!
Mike was contacted and through various forms of communication, we learned he
would arrive some time saturday AM. Andy is also expected saturday.
Power was finally restored at 8:20 am!
Lets hope the weather behaves itself for the 2nd half of the 2007 DML BBQ!
