46RH overdrive and torque converter solenoids

Ok I've studied the diagrams for the OD and TC lock up circuits on
Christine - but I still can't quite figure out whats supposed to do what
on the plug in. There is a three pin plug in for the OD and TC on the
tranny. I took a multimeter to them and determined that one wire had
power when the engine was running, one wire had power when the OD on/off
switch was on, and one wire never had voltage. I looked at the A-500 I
have apart in the garage and the center wire on the connector - the
heavier guage wire - connected to both solenoids. And then the other
two wires went one to each solenoid. They two are on a one peice block
that bolts to the valve body.

Do they operate like a starter solenoid? Constant power with switched
power to click them over? Do they ground through the valve body?

Christines trans does not seem to go into over drive. Or perhaps its
always in over drive.

I tried to bypass the SMEC and the Od on/off switch and use a toggle to
engage the over drive myself. But when I applied power to the wire I
thought would actuate the OD solenoid - the engine RPM actually went UP.

Also - is the 46RH geared different from the A-500? I thought the RPM's
were a little high when cruising.

I have a few more minor bugs to work out before I can declare Christine
ready for daily driver duties... but this transmission stuff is really
hanging me up.
