I like the replies on the top. If you are following a thread, then the response is right here, and you don't have to scroll down through all the other stuff you have already read. And if you haven't read it or need to catch up, then you can scroll down and read it.

No, the most recent reply should always be on the *bottom*. You read
top to bottom - the thread should go that way too. One shouldn't have
to scroll UP to read a discussion.

No, it's more a matter of courtesy. If you're replying to 10% of a
post, why include the other 90% that people have to scroll through?
