Your point does make sense, we were just sharing our experience. It sure is
easier to replace one caliper and hope that does fix it as opposed to a
booster. So I concur with Bernd, do the caliper first. I took off my
caliper and pushed the piston back in and then slowly pushed the brake pedal
(helper), and watched the piston move out and then slightly back in so I
thought all was well, only to have it start binding up again. It did happen
gradually, and Josh's happened pretty suddenly and severely so I agree with
you Bernd, go with the caliper and hopefully that will fix it. Geez, I am
getting soft in my old age.

If I'd change out the brake booster on all the Durango, Ram, and Dakota's
that come in with sticking calipers...i'd be out of a job for excessive
rechecks.

Like Bob said, bad booster, I had it happen on mine too.

As Bernd already said, bad caliper. I've seen several on the GenIII Daks
over the years. Just had to replace one on my truck last weekend. It was
the passenger side and was definitly the caliper. The piston on the caliper
was actually damaged and it only pulled when I applied the brake. Bought
new EBC rotors(these things are sweet!!), and loaded re-man calipers for
both sides. I also flushed and bled the entire brake system. My truck
stops better now than it ever did since I bought it used in 2002. And I've
done rotors and pads a couple time already.

So I replaced the rotors and pads on the front of the truck about a thousand
miles ago and today while driving home one of the front's appears to have
locked up. It was smoking pretty bad and looked really hot as the grease was
bubbling. So what would cause this to happen before I start digging into it,
and am looking at replacing more then the pads and rotor on that side due to
the heat, like the caliper?
