The "Vortec" name came out in 1996. The last 5.7 was 1998. The 2500+ kept
the C/K until 2001 I think, that's also when the Duramax came out. The 1999+
ones are 4.8, 5.3 and 6.0, they're still derived from the small block Chevy we
all know. I also know GM uses the Vortec name on GM Performance Parts heads
as well.
