   Yeah, doesn't sound like a great situation overall. :-( Have you
done a compression and/or leakdown test?

   A band-aid for blowby can be to install a vacuum regulator in place
of the PCV valve. If the problem is just worn piston rings, that
will let you put off doing a ring job or rebuild for a while, but the
knocking sound and all of the other issues you describe seem to hint
at deeper troubles, and not the sort of things you want to have in a
vehicle you intend to drive cross country. :-(
