Yup...they're overcharging you. Even at the dealerships I've been at, they
never charged extra labor for replacing either the heater core or evaporator
when the A/C case had to be opened up.

Ouch... The heater core is about $45 from NAPA (part# 660-3339) and
either $135, (part# 282999) or $155, (part# 288323) for the evap core,
depending on which if the two styles you have - plate and fin or serpentine.

Tell that shop to get stuffed. Thats way too much.

There is almost no extra labor involved with changing the evap core with
the heater box out. You should not get charged additional labor for
that one. The price of $300 for the evap core makes me think they are
NOT charging labor however. Shops typically quote FULL LIST price for
parts. Usually double retail. $150 x 2 = $300.
