Yes, you are correct in that it's a judgemental thing. For the price of the
reman caliper, I'd rather have the peace of mind knowing that both calipers
are good and under a warranty. Plus with the frequent problems some people
have with brakes, once again, for me it's just good peace of mind. Which is
also why I suggested replacing the brake lines. Who knows what type of
damage may have occurred to the rubber brake lines from the excess heat of a
caliper/rotor faire. Rubber isn't made to get very hot before it starts to
break down.

Not trying to be argumentative or anything, :-) but if one caliper
locks up, I can't think of a reason why you would need to replace the
one on the other side. The only thing I can think of is perhaps you
are looking at it from the perspective that if one side locks up, the
other might do the same in the near future, due to some sort of design
or end-of-life issue? If so, I guess that's a judgement call each
person has to make. However, since disc brakes are independently self
adjusting, a problem on one side should not affect the other, so
personally, I wouldn't bother. (In fact, I had a sticking caliper on
my '90 Dakota a few years back. Swapped a reman caliper in on that
side, didn't even pull the wheel on the other side, and its been great
ever since.)
