With one hand on the top of the wheel and the other on the bottom - rocking
it in/out - or "push/pull" (not side to side), that would be wheel bearing.
If it's side to side and it's too easy (with a loose feeling when you first
move it) that would be either tie rods and/or center link.

Subject: DML: Wheel bearings?

Today on my 97, 318, 4x4 I had the front end up to grease it and checked the
passenger side tire while still on the vehicle with the left to right and up
and down check, it was fine. Then on the driver's side I noticed some play
on all four of these movements. Would this be wheel bearings, tie rods, or
? The truck doesn't make any squealing, squeaking or grinding noises
whatsoever. Thanks for any ideas.
