Most of the related symptoms are all covered under either a PCM and/or TCM
update. Since there are quite a few updates since 2000 on the 45RFE, you
may want to try having the transmission adaptives reset first and allowing
the transmission to relearn your driving first before going any further.
No, a simple battery disconnect won't clear out the trans adaptives...you'll
need a scan tool that gets into the TCM.

Subject: DML: 45-RFE stalling issues in cold weather.

Hey guys! I've been in lurking mode lately. Hope everyone had a good
Thanksgiving.

Here my issue with my 45-RFE. When I first start drive and the ambient
temperature in below about 60deg. and the truck in also at ambient
temperature. The first few miles when coming to a stop for a traffic
light or stop sign the engine dies. It feel like the clutch for the
45-RFE is not disengaging and the engine bucks and dies. This has been a
on and off issue for years. Being that living in the south has helped to
keep this to minor complaint. It has done this before and after fluid
and filter changes, also before and after the Transgo Reprogramming kit,
45RFE-HD2. Hope someone here have heard, seen this before and help me out.

Thanks
Don
