You do not want to get any foreign matter in the brake system.
I'd suspect that corrosion is the culprit due to seeing that
you hang your hat in Connecticut.. Antiseize would be what
I would try, making sure I kept any from entering the system.

5 Seconds...PLBBBTH!

<>All the way to the right would be an overcharge, assuming the gauge
was working; wonky voltage regulator maybe or a short in the
alternator preventing the field coil from de-energizing? This was
just a one time thing, I take it? Got to love those intermitent

Actually, it happened 3 fifferent times on the way to work that AM...
At noon I hadda make a bank run & she was deader than dead...
Not even a measley solenoid clickety-click...
Sears is w/i 2 miles of where I work, so I grabbed a Die Hard...
They threw the old one on their battery tester thingie, & the cranking amps
were under 700 - rated for 750...
Prolly still good for a three-year-old battery, but I grabbed a new one
anyway...
Seems to be workin good so far...

I take it "wonky" is a technical electrician-type term for a problem?

Never had an "overcharge" before this in 40 years of drivin...

Subject: DML: Jeep GC tailgate

Since everyone here seems so bored, I'm going to cross-post this question :)

I aquired my Dad's Jeep Grand Cherokee as he had no use for it and I
have the storage. The tailgate requires some special finesse to open.
I've found the best way to open it is to push firmly 6-12" to the
right of the handle, then pull open. If it doesn't work, then curse
and repeat. If your voice becomes hoarse, load through the rear
passenger doors intead.

Any permanent fix known? I've tried but have not figured out where
exactly it's hanging up. I've met two other JGC owners with the same
symptoms (including hoarse voice).

Have you pulled the interior panel to check out the mechanism? I know
with my Outback, the tailgate latch/handle will stick in the "open"
position and I have to push it back to the "closed" position with my
fingers. Apparently the mechanism gets corrosion on it & the levers
stick.

I haven't opened mine up yet to check it out.

just wanna cut it off, seems like the only lasting relief..;.

With the brakes on my Dak feeling spongy (quick bleed job last time),
I went to bleed them again. Last time, which was ~6 months ago, I
replaced the rear wheel cylinders because the bleed nipples broke off.
Well, guess what! The bleed nipples broke off again. ~6 months old.
How does one avoid this with the new cheapazz chinametal? Is teflon
tape a good idea on the bleed nipple threads? Or better yet, any
sources on decent quality wheel cylinders? I got the last ones from
AZ.

Get the less cheapazz american metal. ;)

No easy way to tell which brand won't do that...depends on the area,
corrosion factor, and quality of the part. Personally, I've never had
problems with NAPA parts.

I agree on the NAPA brand, else wise put a little anti_seize on the
threaded parts...

   Ouch! That sucks. :-(

One thing that comes to mind is there may be some sort of galvanic
reaction taking place there; seems like both parts should be steel,
but maybe one has a coating which is creating some sort of reaction.
It might also cheap nipples. If you get another AZ wheel cylinder, it
may be worth chucking the nipple that's on there and replacing it with
a higher quality one?

If 'twere me, I'd check out the existing cylinders (pulling them
out if necessary) to see if the broken nipple can be extracted; if so,
that's save you some money over new ones.

Another thought, since the cylinders usually come as bare metal, it
might be worthwhile to hit 'em with some rattle paint prior to
re-installing, and possibly spread some heavy grease (or vaseline)
around the nipple area to try and prevent moisture and oxygen from
ever reaching the threads.

I have used teflon on my brake bleeders; I think its ok as long as
you are careful to wrap it in such a way that its not likely to break
off bits of it to float around in the brake fluid. If you don't need
the sealing aspects of the tape though, and are just looking to
prevent the sticking, I'd be inclined to use a bit of anti-sieze
instead.

Heck my Dakota tailgate doesn't want to close below freezing a few
hard slams works above 20F a few squirts of wd40 a few years ago fixed
it for a few years probably time for another squirt. As for the GC I'd
check for warping or signs of rubbing. Of course wd40 on the latch
wouldn't hurt.

My Dak tailgate doesent close properly and hasn't since I got the truck.
It feels like a door that is only half latched most of the time. I
have adjusted the pins and the locks, oiled the hell out of everything,
cleaned everything, tride teflon, wax, light oil, heavy oil, grease and
spooge to lube it up and nothing works... It is the way it is.

So much for "Built Ford Tough"

They should've put an old tire in the middle of two chains and hooked one
end to the stuck truck and the other to the tow truck then snatched. The
tire acts as a heavy duty rubber band and provides some stretch for
recovery. DAMHIK!
