Ok, The original reason I needed to replace the battery was similar to
your issues.
I went to a O'Reilys and bought Red top #1, put it in, and drove home.
The next morning, bupkis nada nothing. I took it back in, they tried to
garge it and the charger refused, so they gave me #2. I really should
have tested #2 because it didn't even manage to start my truck the first
time. Back to the store, and a bit annoyed, and looking around to see
if Tom is hiding in a bush laughing at me...

The store was out of red tops, so I had to go across town to try for #3.
  #3 lasted 4 days before it went flat. #4 was just like #2, but I had
the foresight to have them stick it on the tester so I never even made
it out of the store. #5 came from Store #3 and was a different date
code [12/07]. The "bad batch" was all [06/07], and at the time there
was a couple of google results dealing with a bad batch of optimas.

*Now* I am 100% pleased with my red top and it's 100%....
