Since the tranny went in the Cummins a week ago I've been wishing I
had one of those magical "warranties" again. I got to have one for
about 35,000 miles after I bought the Jetta, and the only things I got
out of it were adjusting a door and replacing one or two glowplugs
(they won't do a set of 4 when all 4 aren't bad). I'm glad I didn't
pay anything extra for that beyond purchase price.

and that's the other thing I'm thinking about as I wrench on this
truck that's nearly what you want (I have carpet and a power driver's
seat). I should really buy a spare starter, alternator, and fuel
shutoff solenoid to put in a lead box. Those are the ONLY electronic
needed to run this truck. and I could rig up a push/pull cable to
replace the fuel solenoid.

That's a scale of reliability that no modern vehicle can even think
about comparing to, and you only have to go back to 1998.0 for that.
But, again, you'll pay dearly for it. All Cummins trucks are gold
plated it seems.

Mike

PS: there's no way in hell I'd buy a new vehicle off the lot unless
it's a new-old-stock giveaway. I'll always be buying at least 1-2
years old to let someone else take that huge hit that happens in the
30 seconds after papers are signed.
