    My '96 does this. If I tap on the dash or gauge cluster, or press
on the front of the gauge cluster, the tach will work, so in my case,
I think its a loose connection in the dash - probably a connector on
the back of the gauge cluster, but it might be a trace on the circuit
board I suppose. I haven't taken the time to look in to it yet, depsite
the fact that its been doing that for something like 5 years now... :-)

    Its a bit disconcerting when coming up on a speed trap, glancing
down to double check my speed and seeing the needle is on zero. :-)

    The next time it happens, you might want to try the Fonzie
technique on the dash, or press on the front of the gauge cluster. If
that causes the needle to start working again, I'd suspect a loose
connection somewhere.
