Reminds me of the time the insurance company tried to tell me my Neon
(which was hit by some idiot driving on a suspended license with no
insurance) was registered under the wrong VIN and it was actually a car
on a rebuilt title.
Turns out the "investigator" only checked the VIN on the door, and not
the VIN on the dash or the trunklid. The door at some point must have
been replaced with the door off a junked car.
Needless to say it was a PITA. If I'd not kept the car they'd have
screwed me for sure. As it was I had to go out in the pouring rain
after driving 25 miles one way to take some photos of the VIN# myself
and send them to the insurance co.
