I don't know about that, but I've rebuilt engines that had the
data plate rivited to the block where it had been rebuilt by
JASPER and found several things inside that did not jive with
what should be.. such as more than one rod with the same
number stamped on it, and mis matched rod caps and main
bearing caps. I've always read and believe that rod caps and
rods should carry the same #'s and that main caps should always
be reinstalled in the same location as they were removed from..
I know some of them can't be installed wrong, but some of them
can. I rebuilt a 302 FOMOCO once that had the firing order on
the intake manifold correctly for the year engine but had the later
model cam in it so had the late model firing orderI(they changed
the firing order sometime in the early-mid 80's) (I think) It really
caused me some headaches when trying to crank it after the
rebuild. When I finally discovered what was wrong and corrected
the wiring, it ran good. I then ground off the firing order that was
cast into the intake and took my stamps and pecked the correct
firing order into the intake. (Early 302's carried a different firing
order than the 351W, but later models carried the 351W firing
order.)

I'd rather have an engine that I rebuilt than have anyone
elses rebuild. I usually go to a salvage yard & purchase
a "Core" engine and rebuild it myself. That way I know who
to blame if something goes wrong, and besides, I usually
come out several $'s ahead doing this.

All depends on peraonal experience and desires, I guess.

If you have a bad cough, take a large dose
of laxatives. Then you'll be afraid to cough.
