The "wife tool" is the more specialized replacement for the "hand tool"
in the same fashion as an impact gun is a specialized replacement for a
crescent wrench. Both can perform the same basic function, in my
example, the loosening and tightening of nuts. But the impact gun is
quicker, stronger, more expensive, and while generally better at
tightening nuts, especially big ones, is also much more likely to damage
or completely destroy those same nuts if used carelessly. To continue
the analogy, the impact gun also requires more maintenance to operate,
and can be expensive to replace, but generally, the more you spend to
start, assuming equal maintenance, the longer your impact gun will
continue to tighten and loosen your nuts.
