Cruise Control

'97 Ram issue, I think the pertinant pieces would match most Gen II Dakotas though, so I was wondering if anyone has some ideas...

The cruise on my Ram quit on Friday. Slight background: this is the 2 spoke wheel with center airbag, 2 small horn buttons and cruise controls across the bottom edge like so [on/off|indicator light|resume/accel|set/coast] <http://www.jimsautoparts.com/images/94-02-ram-steering-column.gif>

The initial failure was when hitting the brakes with cruise set: rather than cancel, and be able to resume; the indicator light would go out and I could not turn cruise back on until a key off cycle. Otherwise, cruise would work fine. If I turned it on and off with the on/off button and never hit the brakes while it was on, all was well. That indicator light /should/ stay on when tapping the brakes as far as I recall.

after about 500 miles of that behavior, the cruise quit working. the indicator light will still go on and off with the on/off button but that's all.

I checked the vacuum line feeding the cruise module and it's connected and whole. My HVAC controls are fine so the vacuum system has to be working properly.

I've come across one fellow saying a bad button module cause similar issues for him. I have wiring diagrams now but have not looked through them. Was wondering if anyone here had seen similar issues on a Mopar with that generation cruise and could share some insight.

Thanks.

PS - other than an injector line breaking, bad door hinge bushings getting worse, and the cruise problem, my 1200 mile shakedown was a flawless success.
