Can someone confirm that a 2005 3.9 distributor will not work with a 1997 computer?

A buddy of mine swapped a newer motor into his 97 truck and is getting no spark. Codes are 11, 12, 22, 55. He swapped the intake manifolds but didn't swap distributors.
